NEW – Update on Dave Burnham’s Citroën Mechanic Rob Harlan
February 8, 2010 by Denis
Just got another update on Rob Harlan (Dave Burnham’s mechanic) from CCNA member Bill Blaufuss. Says Bill…
I contacted Dave Burnham the other day to get an update on Rob and Dave said that he’d welcome me sharing it with others via CitBitz as he is understandably super busy. It sounds like Rob is making a solid comeback.
Per Dave:
Rob may be back to work by mid February he is walking now without a cane or leg brace and going to physical therapy 3 times a week and is making a good recovery. I am not sure his knee will ever be like it was before but he is doing very well and truly appreciates all the well wishes from the Citroen Community.
Once again here is Rob’s address:

Citroën mechanic Dave Burnham, of Dave Burnham Citroën in Delanson, NY just sent in an update on his mechanic, Rob Harlan.Rob was severely injured in a hit-and-run accident several weeks ago. He was driving his Citroën 2CV when a gal in a Jeep ran a stop sign and he T-boned her. She fled the scene, but police found the abandoned Jeep a few hours later and she has been cited for felony hit-and-run.
Rob suffered from 3 broken ribs, a dislocated knee, a messed up knee cap and a broken pelvis. He also had many severe cuts from going through the windshield. As you can see from the following photos, he is lucky to be alive. Rob wants the Citroen community to know how grateful he is for their support.
We here at Citbitz want to remind you that Rob will be unable to work for a long time and he has a family to support. Please keep him in your thoughts and do what you can to help.

From Dave…
Here is a quick update on my helper Rob Harlan. After his crash in the 2CV, Rob spent about 6 days in the hospital and another week or so in rehab. He is now home, but confined to a wheel chair until he can put weight on his leg and pelvis.
He will be out of work for at least a couple of months. Rob is in great spirits and has been overwhelmed by all the thoughtful cards, letters and donations from the Citroen community. He is very grateful for that. In regards to driving a 2CV again… Rob says he would definitely buy another one in the future if one comes up in his price range!

Looking for something in particular?

I guess you’d have to call it a 1/2CV now.
Glad you’re going to be OK, Rob.
Isn’t it amazing how much damage the 2CV sustained vs. the Jeep? Don’t misunderstand, IMHO Citroen made the best cars in the world for 50-odd years – an incredible run. I’m not one to normally favor government intervention in industry. Nonetheless, I’m thankful for the safety advances made in automobiles wherever the source.
Glad to hear you are doing ok, Rob. The Citroen community really is a great family and we’re glad you’re a part of it. Stay safe.

Really very happy to read the progress report on Rob.
All the Best!
